S01 E08 with Val Pelleck CAT(C) - Getting the Most out of your Practicum Placements

In this episode, Val shares with us the importance of field and clinical placements, how those placements work, the top 3 things that students can do to get the most out of their placement, and touches on the importance of prior experience in the Athletic Therapy world!

Val Pelleck is a graduate from the University of Winnipeg and certified as an athletic therapist in 2003. She completed her Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation in 2015 at the University of Manitoba, where she investigated several outcome measures altered by attentional focus in a golf putting task.

Val started teaching at the University of Winnipeg in January 2010 after a period of time living and working in Australia.  During her time overseas, she worked with a club rugby team and also taught at the Wodonga Institute of TAFE in the Department of Community Health Services.

Currently, Val is the Athletic Therapy practicum coordinator and through that role manages all internal and external placements both in the field and in the clinic.  She also teaches the Assessment of Musculoskeletal Injuries and Human Musculoskeletal Anatomy courses in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health.

Outside of the University of Winnipeg, Val is a volunteer with the CATA on the exam development committee and is very involved with Softball Canada as a Level 5 official.
